NEW IBERIA, La. (TND) — An investigation has been launched after a woman's body was found in the freezer of a fast-food restaurant, police in Louisiana say.

New Iberia Police Department Sgt. Daesha Hughes confirmed with The National Desk that it was an employee who discovered the woman's body at the Arby's location in New Iberia and that the deceased was also an employee of that same fast-food store.

The woman's cause of death has not been determined yet, according to Sgt. Hughes, and while police initially said they were investigating a "suspicious death," initial findings have not led to suspicions of foul play.

Police, speaking with local news stations, have already provided similar information.

A situation like this is unusual, so we’re taking extra precautions during the investigation," New Iberia Police Capt. Leland Laseter reportedly explained to KADN News. "[We] pretty much have completed our process at the crime scene. After completely processing the crime scene... this does not seem like a homicide, it seems like an accident."

Capt. Laseter told the news outlet that several employees of the Arby's location have already been interviewed and some may be interviewed again. Sgt. Hughes confirmed that to TND.

A coroner's vehicle took the woman's body to the morgue to both confirm the victim's identity and determine the cause of death. TND has been told that while the coroner's investigation is still not complete, it is expected to be finished on Friday.

We're going to re-examine all the evidence tomorrow and they're going to conduct an autopsy to give us the cause and manner of death," Capt. Laseter told KADN News. "So there are a few more steps that we need to take before a (final) determination is made."

The woman's body was discovered shortly before 6:30 p.m. local time on Thursday evening, police told TND. The New Iberia fast-food restaurant is located about 130 miles west of New Orleans.

New Iberia Police Department told TND to expect an update on this investigation around noon on Friday.
