The Maui News
A high wind watch is in effect starting this morning through late Tuesday night, the National Weather Service said.
Northeast winds of 25 to 45 miles per hour with localized gusts of more than 60 mph are expected for Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Oahu, Hawaii island and portions of Kauai.
The Haleakala summit could experience east winds of 45 to 55 mph with gusts in excess of 66 mph.
Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines, the weather service warned. Widespread power outages are possible and travel could be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.
A fire weather watch also is in effect for the leeward portions across the state starting this morning though late Tuesday night due to the high winds and humidity being 40 to 45 percent during the afternoons and evening.
The weather service said any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly and outdoor burning is not recommended.
